I will note that we use the 4G Hawks on our news server here, have had no
problems with them, and they are on Adaptec 1742A SCSI adapters (EISA Bus).

Again -- NO problems have been noted with these disks here, and they get the
dickens beat out of them daily.

This is on FreeBSD -STABLE.

I suspect the sequencer code.  The 27xx series adapters have been
problematic for us here, and they also require downloaded sequencer code.
