I hate to reply to my own messages, but this was necessary.
The card is a Linksys WMP11 v2. The workstation runs

FreeBSD 5.4-STABLE #7: Tue May 10 15:47:51 EDT 2005

and the server runs

FreeBSD 5.4-RELEASE-p1 #7: Tue May 17 16:15:53 EDT 2005.

I am using WEP, but this shouldn't make a difference (I tried turning it
off to the same effect).
