The latest if_de.c (& dc21040.h) in -current /usr/src/sys/pci understand how
the enet address is encoded on newer ROMs.  I had this problem with a recent
DE500-XA using the 21140 chip. 

I dropped in the new driver on my 2.0.5-950622-SNAP system and the card has
been working ever since.
