Hi, 1) Yes, this from 5-STABLE and I'm running 5.3-RELEASE. Still, 2) The port is looking for atk-1.6.1 though it ADVERTISES that it requires atk-1.8.0 3) The port seems to think atk-1.8.0 is OLDER than atk-1.6.1 4) This port was ACTUALLY HAPPY on other installs of 5.3-RELEASE. What is different about this one is that I installed WITHOUT Xorg or Gnome, then installed Gnome2-2.8.1 from packages. Other than that, I love it. Thanks for all your good work ! HTH, Mike [Background: On an earlier install of 5.3-RELEASE I had tried following the instructions using gnome_upgrade.sh. That failed so I tried the fallback instructions: # pkgdb -F # pkg_delete -rf pkgconfig\* # cd /usr/ports/x11/gnome2 # make clean # make install clean That also failed and it just got worse from there... ] ----------------- cut ---------------------------------- ===> Verifying install for atk-1.0.600 in /usr/ports/accessibility/atk ===> Installing for atk-1.6.1 ===> atk-1.6.1 depends on executable: pkg-config - found ===> atk-1.6.1 depends on shared library: glib-2.0.400 - found ===> Generating temporary packing list ===> Checking if accessibility/atk already installed ===> An older version of accessibility/atk is already installed (atk-1.8.0) You may wish to ``make deinstall'' and install this port again by ``make reinstall'' to upgrade it properly. If you really wish to overwrite the old port of accessibility/atk without deleting it first, set the variable "FORCE_PKG_REGISTER" in your environment or the "make install" command line. *** Error code 1 Stop in /usr/ports/accessibility/atk. ----------------- cut ---------------------------------- @mjc3:~> uname -a FreeBSD mjc3 5.3-RELEASE FreeBSD 5.3-RELEASE #0: Fri Nov 5 04:19:18 UTC 2004 root@harlow.cse.buffalo.edu:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC i386 Makefile: # # $FreeBSD: ports/www/firefox/Makefile,v 1.105 2004/11/22 04:04:52 marcus Exp $ # To reproduce: Browse to http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/ports.cgi?query=firefox&stype=all Port: firefox-1.0_3,1 Web browser based on the browser portion of Mozilla Maintained by: gnome@FreeBSD.org Requires: atk-1.8.0, bitstream-vera-1.10, expat-1.95.8, fontconfig-2.2.3,1, freetype2-2.1.7_3, gettext-0.13.1_1, glib-2.4.7, gmake-3.80_2, gnomehier-1.0_20, gtk-2.4.13, hicolor-icon-theme-0.5, imake-6.7.0_2, intltool-0.32.1, jpeg-6b_3, lcms-1.13_1,1, libIDL-0.8.4, libXft-2.1.6, libiconv-1.9.2_1, libmng-1.0.8, libxml2-2.6.16, p5-XML-Parser-2.34_1, pango-1.6.0, perl-5.8.5, pkgconfig-0.15.0_1, png-1.2.7, shared-mime-info-0.15, tiff-3.7.0_2, xorg-fonts-encodings-6.7.0, xorg-fonts-truetype-6.7.0, xorg-libraries-6.7.0_3, zip-2.3_2 Download: http://cvsweb.freebsd.org/ports/www/firefox/firefox.tar.gz?tarball=1 > tar zxf firefox.tar.gz > cd firefox > make
