The abbreviation is also used for "flavors" of those operating systems, i. e. modified, preconfigured and customized versions (for example PC-BSD, today called TrueOS, MidnightBSD, TrustedBSD). Ideas and concepts of BSD can even be found in Apple's Mac OS X.
