Do you have the Adaptec BIOS sending the start unit command to your drive?
I've heard that Quantum has started shipping new drives with the jumper for
delayed start enabled, so this could be your problem.

I'll look into incorperating your patch sometime this weekend. Its not
100% correct as the 2940AU uses an aic7860 and may need to be treated
different than the aic7870 and aic7880 chips on the real 2940s.
