There we go, that helps enormously. :-) The problem is that you're not following the instructions for "To update from 4.0-RELEASE or later to the most current 4.x-STABLE". That's why I suggested that you read the whole UPDATING file before trying to upgrade. Follow those instructions and let me know whether they work for you.
