I have hot-swap disks and when I want to install from CDs (till 5.x and 6.x) I got lots of garbage hexadecimals. I found a solution for that. I just remove the disk just before the selecting the MENU item. Then after a time before installation wants to see SCSI devices I reinsert the disks. This solves my installation problem. Good luck.
