I'm trying to install FreeBSD on an HP zx6000 without much success. I've
installed other operating systems on here before (such as Debian)
without difficulty, but I can't get FreeBSD to install properly from the
installation CDs.

I tried this earlier in the year and people on the FreeBSD forums
suggested that this was a known issue and that using old releases of
FreeBSD might work better. Here's a link to the FreeBSD forum where I
originally asked the question:
http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=28615

I've tried now:
- FreeBSD 9.0-RC3
- FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE
- FreeBSD 8.0-RELEASE
- FreeBSD 7.2-RELEASE

In each case, I've verified the hashes to ensure the discs were
downloaded and burned correctly. I burned the
FreeBSD-x.x-ia64-RELEASE-disc1.iso to CD and booted. What I get each
time is:

FreeBSD/ia64 EFI boot, Revision 3.1
Loading /boot/defaults/loader.conf
/boot/kernel/kernel data=0xfef1f8+0x82710 syms=[0x8+0x0xb1120+0x8+0xa62a9]
\
Hit [Enter] to boot immediately, or any other key for command prompt.
Booting [/boot/kernel/kernel]...
Entering /boot/kernel/kernel at 0x9ffc000000010500...

At that point, it either hangs indefinitely or does a hard reset after a
few seconds. No matter which version of FreeBSD I try to install, I've
never been able to get past the "Entering /boot/kernel/kernel at ..."

Has anyone come across this issue before? Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Mike
