Just to be on the safe side (test the kernel):

1. rm /boot/kernel and mv /boot/kernel.old /boot/kernel

If you are using UFS: 

2. make installkernel KODIR=/boot/testkernel 
3. nextboot -k testkernel

If you are using ZFS:

Use bectl and zfsbootcfg.
