It seems only SCSI-USB drives fails. I tried to use external usb (ATAPI)
CD/DVD-Drive, and it works without mounting errors on 8.0- and 7.3-RELEASE
, I had read errors only with virtual USB drives.
kernel messages (maybe it helps) - mounting External drive:
