The way the 7.6 port works is pretty awful though.  IMHO the configure
script needs to be _fixed_ properly to find the (*&^%(*& shared
libraries and build them itself.  Throwing a hand-rolled Makefile in
doesn't qualify to me.

Hmm, maybe; it hasn't been too bad this time 'round.
