Yes, you should update the firmware.  From the subject, you're using
version S80D of the firmware, which I have heard (second hand) can lock up
the bus.  FWIW, I've got two 36G DDYS drives with the same firmware.  I
haven't had lockups, but then I don't push them very hard.

Supposedly the problems are fixed in version S93E of the firmware for the
DDYS drives.  (And this problem only affects the DDYS drives.)

I don't have the firmware, you'll probably need to talk to IBM about
getting it.
