If you update your source and build a new kernel, it should be fixed. I would also be happy to supply you with a pre-built kernel if you like. The underlying bug that caused the fan issues is likely to be the source of the other problems you are having as well. -Nathan On 02/14/18 11:27, Evan Sabin wrote: > Quick update: > > I restarted the machine by force and easily installed 12.0-CURRENT without a hitch! Now portsnap refuses to extract packages despite numerous force restarts, but who needs it anyway, right? Additional issue: Fans will whir into top RPM (about 14,500) until reading sysctl outputs of temp/fan, then it instantly decreases to about 2,000 RPM and will do the same thing all over again. I can’t download pkg, I can’t really do… much… with so little working at the moment. I’ll report back eventually. > >> On Feb 14, 2018, at 1:58 PM, Bill Sorenson wrote: >> >> On Wed, Feb 14, 2018 at 10:19 AM, Evan Sabin >> wrote: >>> Firstly, likely to someone’s satisfaction and relief, I’m now starting the CD the right way. Unfortunately — and perhaps this is standard procedure, though I doubt it — kernel.txz is taking ages to extract (it’s been about half an hour at the time of writing). It’s been stuck at 21% for this time with no updates despite being able to move the mouse and select text etc., but I’m not keen on shutting down the system mid-install. Not to mention, the system is running at full blast.
