In order to get it to build, I have to mangle the German translation. Apparently, gettext barfs trying to parse the .po file. Since you know German, can you give the de.po file a quick read through, and see if you can spot the bad characters? I've inquired about this with the Gnumeric developers, but so far, no luck. I've even tried gettext-0.12.1.
