I have been using FreeBSD 2.0R happily since it was first shipped
(6 -7 months ?). I've had no problems until now.
****My problem:
(IP packets simply are not being routed through my router to the inet, even
though router has no problem communicating with inet or hosts)
Routing from my net (199.199.28) through my router (199.199.28.1)
suddenly screeched to a halt. By this, I mean that none of my hosts
on the network can reach the inet execept for a Novell server that
runs Mercury for Pegasus (smtp mail gateway). I currently have
approximately 50 hosts that use WWW, ftp, telnet software all
the time. I can still reach the net if accessing directly from the
console of the router machine (jasper). The interesting aspect
is that the smtp gateway on my novell server (topaz) is still able to
send/receive e-mail with no problem.
****What i've already tried:
- I have rebooted jasper (router) several times to reset the
sockets.
- From my hosts, I can ping as far as the modem (serial port) on the
router (199.86.32.171) - no further.
- verified all connections (cards, hubs, etc)
- verified consistency of inability to ping anything on the net from
several hosts.
- used packet sniffer to verify that packets were arriving at router
and found that they were. However, router was not returning any
packets to sending host.
****Useful info:
- Nothing has changed on the router in the last 3 months
- The newest addition to the net that could be the cause of the
problem (by some stupid chance) is an HP-Laserjet 4SI MX PS.
And this printer does speak tcp/ip.
- Second newest addition to the net is a Win95 host, but this has
been up for almost a month now.
