The following reply was made to PR ports/100896; it has been noted by GNATS. From: "Jason R. Coombs" <jaraco@jaraco.com> To: <bug-followup@FreeBSD.org> Cc: Subject: Re: ports/100896: [new ports] emulators/vmware-server-guestd1 emulators/vmware-server-tools1: guest tools for VMware Server 1.x host Date: Sun, 10 Dec 2006 10:11:23 -0700 This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------_=_NextPart_001_01C71C7E.3895729B Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable I respect the change allowing a user to manually copy the vmware-server distribution to distfiles. However, that file is 100MB, and a significant overkill in order to retrieve the vmware tools, which _may_ be accessible to the machine via the virtual CD ROM. I'd like to propose that the port allow for three options: =20 (1) Mount the VMWare tools CD as is done in the VMWare Workstation port. (2) Copy the VMWare Server tools .tgz distribution manually to $DISTFILES (3) Copy the full VMWare Server distribution manually to $DISTFILES. =20 The last option is the least preferable if either of the former two options are available. =20 I'm not very comfortable either with the port creation process or the scripting itself, so I hope someone else may be interested in implementing my suggestion. =20 Jason ------_=_NextPart_001_01C71C7E.3895729B Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <html xmlns:v=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" = xmlns:o=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" = xmlns:w=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word" = xmlns=3D"http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40" xmlns:ns0=3D"http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/2004/12/omml"> <head> <meta http-equiv=3DContent-Type content=3D"text/html; = charset=3Dus-ascii"> <meta name=3DGenerator content=3D"Microsoft Word 11 (filtered medium)"> <style> <!--a:link {mso-style-priority:99;} span.MSOHYPERLINK {mso-style-priority:99;} a:visited {mso-style-priority:99;} span.MSOHYPERLINKFOLLOWED {mso-style-priority:99;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} a:link, span.MsoHyperlink {color:blue; text-decoration:underline;} a:visited, span.MsoHyperlinkFollowed {color:purple; text-decoration:underline;} span.EmailStyle17 {mso-style-type:personal-compose; font-family:Arial; color:windowtext;} @page Section1 {size:8.5in 11.0in; margin:1.0in 1.25in 1.0in 1.25in;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} /* List Definitions */ @list l0 {mso-list-id:772365496; mso-list-type:hybrid; mso-list-template-ids:-366594468 1628742388 67698713 67698715 67698703 = 67698713 67698715 67698703 67698713 67698715;} @list l0:level1 {mso-level-text:"\(%1\)"; mso-level-tab-stop:.5in; mso-level-number-position:left; text-indent:-.25in;} @list l0:level2 {mso-level-tab-stop:1.0in; mso-level-number-position:left; text-indent:-.25in;} @list l0:level3 {mso-level-tab-stop:1.5in; mso-level-number-position:left; text-indent:-.25in;} @list l0:level4 {mso-level-tab-stop:2.0in; mso-level-number-position:left; text-indent:-.25in;} @list l0:level5 {mso-level-tab-stop:2.5in; mso-level-number-position:left; text-indent:-.25in;} @list l0:level6 {mso-level-tab-stop:3.0in; mso-level-number-position:left; text-indent:-.25in;} @list l0:level7 {mso-level-tab-stop:3.5in; mso-level-number-position:left; text-indent:-.25in;} @list l0:level8 {mso-level-tab-stop:4.0in; mso-level-number-position:left; text-indent:-.25in;} @list l0:level9 {mso-level-tab-stop:4.5in; mso-level-number-position:left; text-indent:-.25in;} ol {margin-bottom:0in;} ul {margin-bottom:0in;} --> </style> <!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:shapedefaults v:ext=3D"edit" spidmax=3D"1026" /> </xml><![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <o:shapelayout v:ext=3D"edit"> <o:idmap v:ext=3D"edit" data=3D"1" /> </o:shapelayout></xml><![endif]--> </head> <body lang=3DEN-US link=3Dblue vlink=3Dpurple> <div class=3DSection1> <p class=3DMsoNormal><font size=3D2 face=3DArial><span = style=3D'font-size:10.0pt; font-family:Arial'>I respect the change allowing a user to manually copy = the vmware-server distribution to distfiles.
