Found it, & I see it adressed in body of mail as "All", even though
headers suggest just I got it, so it seems OK to forward it to list.

        Now that I think about it, the XP kernel has a
   fair amount of code from the BSD kernel. It's nothing
   that Microsoft wants to be too public, but I read it
   in a news article from the Register if memory serves,
   so it's probably true. Now all you need to do is get
   on the inside track in Redmond... if you're
   interested.
        Bottom line, obviously Microsoft has a vested
   interest in development of the BSD kernel. They should
   put some of there money up to the table, after all
   they are reaping the rewards without having to pay
   anything up front. I think it's more stable
   personally..
        Also, OS X is BSD based as well. I wouldn't be
   surprised if Apple is putting some money into BSD.
   Although It does appear as if they have created a new
   branch on the BSD tree much like Sun Micro did ages
