IPMI is used to communicate with the BMC and FRUSDR. The BMC sensors get the information and/or logs and status on various components such as fans, power supplies and cpus. The BMC which is part of the Server Board also controls the fan speeds. Clearly the screenshots on our site with respect to IPMI do show lower/upper limits as well as current status of components.
