Huh??  Such as?  Almost all the GNU configure scripts test for presense o=

libc routines by a compile attempt.  I've never seen an autoconf script =

use ar/nm.

I think you are thinking of elm, perl5 etc which use Metaconfig.  *that* =

uses ar/nm/etc and you have to tell it where the library is and how to ge=
