Maybe someone can help... I had a user on the other day, let's call them foo. When I typed 'w', the results of the command went something like this: w: /dev//foo No such file or directory. So, was this user cracking my system? Is this a bug? I've beat my head against the proverbial wall trying to figure out how it could happen, even tried to reproduce it but to no avail.
