I'm using a display manager so I'm not sure, but could be a timing issue.

startx should not be a symlink to startxfce4 though, it should be a script
starting X and it's required parts and launching startxfce4 as it's last
action.

In fact the default startx script is part of the xinit package and should n=
ot
be modified. It can be configured via ~/.initrc for each user. You should p=
ut
the startxfce4 command in your .xinit file.

If you have such a setup can you confirm the bug?
