One can use 9 gig with SunOS 412 , but will to partition it appropriately. If you're looking at news server solution ( as most 9 gig HDD buyers do ) I _strongly recommend to try CCD. It is _very fast ( I have it here with 3 2940Ws and 6 HDDs : 3 2 gig and 3 4 gig) and it shows ~18MB/sec throughput.
