THANKS !!!!!!!! to everyone who tried to help me on this one... Yes I have gotten it working fine now. Below is the original URL instructions I tried to follow. As you can see they are built around an OLD Linux release. I built my *.mbr file using the BOOT.EXE program on this web site. This was the cause of my problems. I must say that it also helped me fix it as well. It ended up coming in handy because after all my messing around I still had backups of the MBR and was able to reset the mbr to what Freebsd had changed it to. http://www.dorsai.org/~dcl/publications/NTLDR_Hacking/ In FreeBSD installation where it gave three choices for the Boot partition actions I chose use a STANDARD partition. (I did NOT use FreeBSD partition manager nor did I "not touch" or "leave alone" the MBR) At this stage after the completed installation the system would boot directly to FreeBSD ONLY! The proper steps to be taken here would be 1. Log into the FreeBSD system as root. 2. Mount a (dos formatted) Floppy [ mount_msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt ] * 3. Copy the Boot0 and Boot1 files to the floppy [ cp /boot/boot0 /mnt/boot0 ] Used for different physical disk [ cp /boot/boot1 /mnt/boot1 ] Used for same physical disk * 4. Shutdown the FreeBSD system and boot from MSDOS floppy. * 5. Run Dos Fdisk program and make the NT partition ACTIVE again. 6. Reboot the system. NT should boot fine now NOT FreeBSD. 7. Copy the needed Boot Sector file from the floppy to: C:\Bootsect.bsd You may see a similar file already on the C: called Bootsect.dos 8. Modify the BOOT.INI file to contain the line: [ C:\Bootsect.bsd="FreeBSD UNIX Version 3.4-Stable" ] (or whatever) 9. Reboot the system and all should work fine. It seems that FreeBSD already took the MBR issues into account and provided the files necessary to make this all work. It would have been very simple had I had the proper instructions. I have marked above the instruction items that I learned via responses from this list. I guessed and figured out #5 on my own. From what I understand: The boot manager that comes with FreeBSD will not boot an NTFS partition. ( I didn't try it ) The NT loader looks a lot nicer and works well enough.
