I can put in a yea vote for the NEC versa/P as well.
the sound is the ESS688 but it is register compatible with SBPRO,
even for games :-)
the 800x600 display is very nice and supported by xfree
and with 16Meg it is a very nice portable workstation.

The only downside I found was that trackball, I did not like its position
but if you plug in an external it works fine.

and the prices have dropped over the summer :-)
