The support for BAT (Block Address Translation) is no longer available in the PowerPC 970FX processor and in the 64-bit PowerPC architecture. The removal of the BAT mechanism will require all application programs to enable the MMU (Memory Management Unit) in order to access non-cachable memory. It's very strange that original manual states quite the opposite.
