I'm not familiar with this multiplexer driver.

The manpage for it implied that configuring the driver requires
kbdcontrol.  /etc/rc.d/syscons controls this during multiuser boot,
but nothing's going to call this for single-user.  Seems like a
catch 22 of sorts...
