I ended up sending this only to Roberto directly. I'll CC: ports in hopes of clearing up a misconception. ----- Forwarded message from David O'Brien <obrien@freebsd.org> ----- > I installed the latest gcc28 port from > ftp://sunsite.cnlab-switch.ch/mirror/FreeBSD/ports-current/lang/ > but I still can't compile as it can't find 'bsd.port.pre.mk' Ah.. that means your /usr/share/mk/ is out of date. The ports collection is intended to work with the most upto date FreeBSD sources. This means the ports collection that comes on the CDROM with a release is perfectly matched to that release. HOWEVER, the ports collection on the FTP site, is matched with the current source of 2.2.x and 3.0. Ie. the ports collection tracks the most current source, so it will be matched for the next release. So you either need to keep your /usr/share/mk/ upto date, or stick to the ports collection that came with your release. You can stay upto date, by grabbing bsd.port.* from ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/FreeBSD-stable/src/share/mk/ for 2.2.x, or ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/FreeBSD-current/src/share/mk/ for 3.0.x. You may also find an applicable "upgrade kit" at http://www.freebsd.org/ports/ ----- End forwarded message ----- To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-ports" in the body of the message
