Right, a healthy probe should show: wdc0: unit 1 (atapi): < ICD-1200AT/ A01>, removable, dma, iordy wcd0: 1367Kb/sec, 120Kb cache, audio play, 255 volume levels, ejectable tray wcd0: no disc inside, unlocked If you don't see a wcdx line in the boot messages, your system has failed to recognize the device and attach a driver.
