I would suggest: 1. Making sure the system in question can NFS mount volumes. 2. Making sure ANYONE can mount the volume in question. 3. Trying an FTP install, mounting the disk under /pub/FreeBSD/2.1.5-RELEASE/ and setting FTP Error to 'retry' in the options screen of sysinstall. 4. A DOS partition install.
