(WITH PATCH) Reply-To: Andrew Sherrod Sender: owner-freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.org The following reply was made to PR i386/10862; it has been noted by GNATS. From: Andrew Sherrod To: freebsd-gnats-submit@freebsd.org Cc: ixkatl@yahoo.com Subject: Re: i386/10862: wd.c STILL cannot recognize correct disk geometry. (WITH PATCH) Date: Wed, 6 Oct 1999 20:30:53 -0700 (PDT) Just to follow-up on my original problem report: Versions 3.2 and 3.3 both still have the same problem. Any disk which reports 4092 instead of 16383 to indicate use of LBA mode will not be recognized as the proper size by wd.c. The fix I originally posted will work for all versions I have examined (2.2.6 through 3.3) and should also work for 4.0. Just letting you know there is still a functional patch for a problem which (at least in my opinion) is a very real and annoying difficulty, especially for new users during initial installation. (A note: On the Washington DC FreeBSD user's group list, I found at least one other user who has experienced this problem and failed to find an adequate solution. Thus, I am not, as the original reply to my posting suggested a problem unique to my system.)
