Not sure if the behaviour changed, but the other gotcha is that / and swap= =20 must be sequential on the disk (or was it same partition/drive). There may= =20 have been a specific circumstance where this would blow up and am pretty=20 sure that it affected 3.x and earlier. Simple enough to play it safe.
