You need to have the ports tree on the machine where you try it. Just create a directory somewhere, copy the Makefile inside, and give it a try (most easy as root, this way you don't have to override some directory variables to get it working). Before you try the redports suggestions: get it first working via a simple "make" on a local system first. If you only use redports it would slow you down until you get something working.
