I thought I'd give 6.0-RELEASE a try, but I can't even get the CD to boot. >>>show device dka0.0.0.107.0 DKA0 SONY DVD RW DRU-510A 1.0f dkc0.0.0.1004.0 DKC0 RZ2CD-KS 0306 dkc200.2.0.1004.0 DKC200 COMPAQ BB00912301 B016 dkc300.3.0.1004.0 DKC300 COMPAQ BB00912301 B016 dva0.0.0.0.1 DVA0 ewa0.0.0.3.0 EWA0 00-00-F8-76-11-7C pkc0.7.0.1004.0 PKC0 SCSI Bus ID 7 5.57 pqa0.0.0.107.0 PQA0 PCI EIDE pqb0.0.0.207.0 PQB0 PCI EIDE >>>boot dka0 (boot dka0.0.0.107.0 -flags a) block 0 of dka0.0.0.107.0 is a valid boot block reading 170135 blocks from dka0.0.0.107.0 failed to read dka0.0.0.107.0 bootstrap failure >>> This was my latest attempt - all other attempts have been identical in their result. I've tried various permutations of: * The CD drive the machine came with (Toshiba XM-6202B) * An old CD writer I had knocking around (Mitsumi CR-4801TE) * My fairly modern DVD/CD rewriter (Sony DRU-510A) and CDs burnt using CD RecorderXP on Windows, Iomega Hotburn on Windows, and cdrecord on Knoppix. The cdrecord one I even did at single speed, but no luck. Am I doing something wrong? Also, if it's possible to boot the installer over the network, without need for media, I would love to do so, but the alpha part of the handbook makes no mention of it being possible (only floppies and CDs are mentioned). I have one and a half more 500AUs should anyone think it's a problem with this particular machine, so I could try swapping the hardware around... -- Russell Howe | Why be just another cog in the machine, rhowe@siksai.co.uk | when you can be the spanner in the works?
