Nicole,
   Sounds like a bunch of fear, uncertainty, and doubt.

I've been using the 3ware Escalade 6200 on my desktop since February
without a hitch.  I appreciate the stability of the FreeBSD kernel
support (twe) and the 3DM Disk Management Utility has been sufficient
for my needs.  Even the 3ware corparate support site pointed to Mike
Smith's pages for bsd 3DM binaries.
