In this case -questions is probably the best. As a general rule, only use one mailing list and if you get zero response elevate it. Sorry, I don't have any IDE-SCSI systems and so I can't answer your question directly. You can swap to a file using vnconfig, though, so that would be a temporary work around while you sorted out this IDE versus SCSI issue. You could also have a small boot on the IDE that configured everything on SCSI. This would also give you an emergency repair facility, and is what I would probably do.
