No panic here. 32-bit Windows 7 guest with the same virtual adapter.

$ date ; uname -v
Sat 20 Oct 2018 00:15:49 BST
FreeBSD 12.0-BETA1 r339438 GENERIC
$ pkg query '%o %v %R' virtualbox-ose virtualbox-ose-kmod
emulators/virtualbox-ose 5.2.20 poudriere

$

If you have not already done so, try building and installing from ports.
