The originator already stated that the bug doesn't appear in bash 2. Using bash 1 as an example of anything is just (pardon the pun) bash-bash'ing. I stand by my statement that no one with any sense still uses bash 1 for anything. It's documented to be broken lots of ways, and all known bugs are fixed in bash 2. If there are real bugs (not style disagreements) in bash 2, they should be reported to the maintainer, who actively responds to and fixes reported problems.
