I compiled a few months ago pppd 2.3 ( the latest betta ) since I had to dial to NT RAS and needed suport for MS CHAP and CBCP ( RAS callback protocol ). I did not touch kernel at all and tracing weekly -stable. In pppd I took kernel related files from pppd in -current. In any case, it works just fine ( I'm heavy ppp user :{) ).
