I assume you are using the entire disk for FreeBSD. The trick is to create a small partition for /. This partition must be below the MAX BIOS size for the disk. Search the FAQ at http://www.freebsd.org, under search. Read the handbook at http://www.freebsd.org under documents. The process is well documented there.
