I tried ispppcontrol disable-vj also to no avail.
Same picture: ftp sessions stall and get a rate of 3.5 KB/s in best cases.

What I also notice is that playing of mp3 files (using x11amp/ pcm0)
is choppy and strange buffer pointer errors appear in the kernel log:

Oct 16 18:32:57 isdn-kukulies /boot/kernel/kernel: pcm0: hwptr went backwards 64
 -> 4032
Oct 16 18:34:40 isdn-kukulies /boot/kernel/kernel: pcm0: hwptr went backwards 92

Oct 16 18:35:24 isdn-kukulies /boot/kernel/kernel: pcm0: hwptr went backwards 64
 -> 4064
Oct 16 18:39:41 isdn-kukulies /boot/kernel/kernel: pcm0: hwptr went backwards 22
72 -> 2112
Oct 17 02:56:55 isdn-kukulies /boot/kernel/kernel: i4b-L1 isic_hscx_waitxfw: HSC
X wait for XFW timeout!
Oct 17 09:17:57 isdn-kukulies /boot/kernel/kernel: pcm0: hwptr went backwards 35

Could there be some problem with interrupts, priority or kernel resources that
i4b uses exclusively or less 'cooperative'.
