I had this same question and had already looked up "ndc" manpage, but there is nothing seen there to do an output of stats that I can see. It does lead to "named" manpage which has reference to this: "/var/tmp/named.stats (file: _PATH_STATS) nameserver statistics data" However, it is a little cryptic about how that stats file is initiated.
