That was exactly my problem. I had commented out the if condition in the Makefile, but still used the patch as an 'extra patch'. After renaming it to files/patch-if__wg.c, it now works to build from an OSVERSION <=3D 1400056 = to a current version while also successfully rebuilding net/wireguard-kmod. All seems fine now.
