Check /usr/ports/UPDATING for 20040531.  You've done step one already,
now do the next two steps.  This will probably run for a LONG time.  I
suggest spending that time with a good book, movie, or friends and
family you have not seen in a while.  Once that's done, you can run
portupgrade again to update any ports that were not affected by the perl
update, which will be probably next to none.
