It'd probably be easier if there were an http CGI script that would automatically handle all the details...then you just feed the right URL to fetch to go get it. But then you might have to worry about whether or not you're picking up a trustworthy site to get the distribution from...although I suppose checking an MD5 hash ought to be a good enough guard against funny business in the distribution files?
