the following lines are in the original GENERIC config file 

options    ATAPI   #Enable ATAPI support for IDE bus
options    wcd0    #IDE CD-ROM

I'm sure that if I remove these line I will be able to build a new kernel.
I've never inserted these lines there might be a problem somehere...
