Have since cut it in half and were able to add many IP numbers with out problems. Yep, it's 2048 chars. But If this were the case, I'd expect the error message "missing newline or line too long" to be showing up in syslog messages. My money's on tcpd or linkage. :-) Ciao, Sheldon.
