If it's unmapped, you will get a signal. If it's mapped read/read-write, then you won't. If you don't, then dereference assign it's value to it's previous value. If it's only mapped read, you will get a signal, otherwise, you won't. Or you could just ioctl() the procfs entry for the process. 8-).
