To test your setup: - log in as root - make sure no isdnd is running (something like "ps ax | fgrep isdnd") - run isdnd manually: "isdnd" - use spppcontrol to set your authentication/password - use ifconfig to bring up the isp0 interface And then ping something. Your startup script probably calls isdnd with -f and -r options to get a full-screen display on some virtual terminal. You can do that, but of course you'll have to use an existing and free terminal device (details depend on your console driver [use i.e. /dev/ttyE6 for wscons, if you allocated enough virtual screens] and your tty setup).
