Subject: IBM ThinkPad modem support now in ports

There is now a port to provide support for IBM ThinkPad laptops using
the mWave ACP DSP as the internal modem. The models using this modem
are at least the 600, 600E, and some 700 series laptops.

The port requires that linuxthreads be installed and installing this
port in turn requires that the system sources be present. If you don't
have full sources on you laptop, you might want to install the
package.

The port includes a kernel module that is installed in
/usr/local/share/mwave. If you want to have the module loaded at boot
time, move it to /modules and add the line mwavedd_load="YES" to
/boot/loader.conf.

Thanks to Simon Walton for converting the Linux software to run under
FreeBSD.

There is one reported problem. It sometimes configures the port as an
8250 instead of a 16550A UART. This is being researched, but the only
known fix is to reboot.

Also, you may need to use the ps2 DOS program to configure BIOS
correctly for the modem. I hope to have a man page added to the port
shortly that covers the details of this. ps2 is available from the IBM
web pages.
